GDPR: The Ticking Time Bomb
Keeping candidate databases up-to-date is an ongoing issue for the recruitment industry. A lack of data cleanliness in the past means that recruiters are often left using outdated records.
This already serious issue will be compounded with the implementation of new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) across EU member states.
GDPR compliance will become enforceable in May 2018, and unlike many directives, it does not require governments to pass any legislation, meaning the rules can be applied directly to businesses.
While recruiters should take this seriously, the changes have many advantages for businesses who manage their data effectively.
Recruiters must put the privacy of prospective and actual candidates first. It takes time but if the obligations of the GDPR are not met, there is the significant risk that candidates will unfairly lose out on genuine job opportunities.
