The Open University using Candidate.ID in recruitment transformation plans

The Open University is the largest academic institution in the UK, with nearly 180,000 undergraduates, postgraduates and students on validated programmes (20-30% increase across 2020), and a staff of approximately 10,000.

Each year, The Open University has around 1,400 internal and external hires which is managed by a centralised resourcing team.

Their biggest challenges lie around hiring in-demand talent at scale. These are hard to fill specialised roles – STEM talent, particularly psychology, social care/ nursing; and hard to fill locations in a fluid, reactive business environment. As well as filling these roles, they must also meet their diversity objectives and ensure their database remains GDPR compliant.

Historically they have run a traditional applications-led approach to recruitment. The focus for 2021 is transforming the recruitment model, creating dynamic talent pipelines across primary role types, improving recruitment operational effectiveness and cost effectiveness at scale.

By changing their model, they strive to improve brand perception and engagement amongst in-demand talent, and diverse talent. It will also allow them to reduce empty chair time and therefore costs to the business.

The Open University will be using Candidate.ID to create best in class engagement and conversion campaigns which will allow them to:

– Activate their current database
– Re-engage in conversations with previous applicants
– Manage conversations with inbound applications
– Activate, nurture and convert proactively sourced candidates who are a good fit for their vacancies

The easy-to-use software will allow the resourcing team to monitor each candidate’s interactions with their communications – emails, landing pages, career site, corporate website and social media. Candidate.ID automatically sends a signal to each candidate’s profile, accumulating points for each and by filtering by this engagement score, the resourcers will easily be able to identify which candidates are interested in careers with The Open University.
